You are not alone. There are so many excellent supports out there for the times when our pets are ill, when we've unexpectedly lost a pet or are coming to the end of our animal friend's life. See below to find information and communities to carry with you as you go through the journey of love, through grief.
Grief can make us feel overwhelmed, shaky, disoriented and upset after the loss of a pet. Grief rolls in like a big wave, taking us along with it, and in that experience we learn to swim with the pain of losing a loved one. Over time, the grief waves come less frequently, or unexpectedly, and with varying intensity. With tears, talking, remembering, memorializing, celebrating and self-care, we come to a new place, forever changed.
When caring for an ailing pet, anticipatory bereavement (thinking and worrying about an upcoming loss), extra stress, and responsibility can take a toll. This is often experienced just as intensely as the actual passing of a pet.
